Teaching Philosophy

Create a positive learning environment

As a teacher, I strive to create a positive learning environment where students feel like they are capable of success and feel comfortable approaching me when they need help.

"Hannah is very knowledgable and very interested in the material. She WANTS students to succeed. She wants us to get a good grade and she provides feedback in order to help us receive these good grades, while also not just handing them out. She pushes you to think differently."

"She genuinely is interested in and WANTS to help every single student be the best they can be in the class. Every time I approached her with a question or needed help with assignment requirements or homework, she gave me a full-page helpful response or pointed me in the right direction without giving me all the answers. She understood what we needed as students to do well in the course and helped as much as possible. I am SO thankful I had Hannah as a teacher and would absolutely recommend her for any course she teaches. Genuinely

couldn't imagine having another or better instructor. She also allowed us to turn in 'homework' (anything we completed) for her to 'grade' (for no points) so we could know what we're doing wrong and how to do it better!"

"She was very relatable and made class fun. Felt like she wanted us all to succeed, which is rare in professors."

"She always made herself available if i needed help and was very knowledgable."

Demonstrate excitement for and engagement with material

I want students to be excited about the material and engage in class. One way I try to achieve this is by demonstrating this behavior personally.

"She's an incredible instructor and probably one of the best I've had at Ohio University. She makes the subject very interesting and explains topics in a way that is not only easy to understand but its also relatable"

"Very energetic about what she is teaching"

"People skills, interacting with the class in a comfortable manner that is easy to approach and makes you want to stay engaged!!!"

Foster critical thinking skills and application of knowledge

One of my primary goals is to foster critical thinking skills in students. To do so, I employ active and engaging activities, and facilitate the application of concepts learned to students' everyday lives.

" I really enjoyed the Application Paper assignments, because they helped to put our life experiences to the concepts we've learned. It made me understand them better."

"Her PowerPoints were helpful and I liked the videos we watched in class. My favorite was watching the Stanford Prison Experiment in class and the discussion that followed."

"This course was full of applicable information. I've thought about and used the statistical tests I've learned outside of class in my own life."
